JEWELLERY CARE
Silver. The most reflective metal in the world! Even platinum, white gold or rhodium can’t compare. 925 sterling Silver is used throughout EUGENIE CHAN jewellery. Though it may tarnish a little in time, with each polish and clean it will return to the brilliance only silver can give. Raw silver beads are personally selected and imported from USA, Turkey, India and Thailand, with wire exclusively from the USA.
Humidity and chemicals in the air cause silver to tarnish. The most common tarnish causing elements are salt, wool, felt, rubber bands, latex gloves, sulphur in the air, oily residue from our hands and fingers.
Tarnish can be minimized during storage. It would be a good idea to wipe your jewellery with a clean cloth before putting it away. It is best to store your jewellery in a tarnish resistant cloth, or in an airtight bag with an anti tarnish strip or moisture absorbing desiccants. The EUGENIE CHAN box contains an anti-tarnish strip. However, it will last for only 6 months. If you would like another sent to you, just email us.
It is easiest to remove tarnish when it has just formed indicated by a yellow hue. Best to use a silver cleaning cloth impregnated with tarnish removing chemicals, it is safe for you, and any semi-precious stones involved. Silver dips should only be reserved for severe tarnishing, and great care needs to be taken when there are semi-precious stones involved. Do not use toothpaste to clean your silver jewellery.
Pearls. Additional care needs to be taken for pearls as pearls are one of the softest precious stone. As they are organic, they absorb dirt, and will rot from inside out if left to do so. For this reason, all EUGENIE CHAN pearls are strung on silk thread of which will absorb any moisture and dirt instead of the pearls. This means that they will require re-stringing ever once in a while, depending on usage. It is time for a re-string when you see the thread has become a dull, dark colour, or when there is sagging, and the knots become loose such that you can move the pearl back and forth between two knots. When storing pearls, please place it separately and wrap it in a cloth to prevent scratches from other jewellery items.
If you have any questions about jewellery care or cleaning, we would be glad to help. Alternatively, just send it back, and we will clean and service it for you free of charge (excluding shipping costs).
Your jewellery is made with utmost care and generational durability in mind. The components themselves are of extremely high quality, but will not withstand constant abuse. If anything should go wrong, please send it back, and we can help you with it. |
